I hate Sunday afternoons. A carryover, no doubt, from anticipating Monday morning school. But what an amazing Sunday I had with my daughter and the young people in Stephen Haff’s remarkable program, STILL WATERS IN A STORM. An entire Sunday afternoon, an uplifting event among the young of this Brooklyn neighborhood. They listened, they responded, they got distracted from time to time, as the very young will — as we all do, on Sunday afternoons. We talked about life. I, from seven decades, and some of the participants, from their first. What a privilege to spend a day in the presence of such purity, of minds and souls with huge appetites, still in formation. To be in the presence of children trying to understand the world they’ve inherited, from so many different perspectives — mine, that Sunday. It was an honor to compare our different realities together.
