Visiting Still Waters in a Storm is like visiting a small radiant kingdom. I keep thinking about it, and its warm, welcoming atmosphere. About the delicious home-made tacos – dozens of them – because the students always share a meal at Still Waters. About the bright, smiling faces of the children – because they are completely confident that their voices will be heard and their hearts will be safe here. About the silence, the writing, the listening, the attentiveness, and the lovely words – because they are trusted to respect others, and to be respected themselves. About the wild, joyful shouts of the children during play time, because they always have an hour in which to race and leap and laugh out loud. All of this will remain with me. I’m grateful to Stephen Haff, for creating this small radiant kingdom and for inviting me to visit it. We are all lucky to have it in our world. I won’t forget it.
